How To Measure Bulk Density Of Activated Bleaching Earth

Bulk density is a property of powders of activated bleaching earth. It is defined as the mass of powders of fullers earth divided by the total volume they occupy.

Fuller's earth that too light will make refinery filtering process jammed; but activated bleaching earth that too heavy will reduce its bleaching power to decolorize oil badly. Bulk Density also indicates whether mesh of the fullers earth is too smooth or too rough. Ideal fullers earth bulk density is between 0.5 to 0.6 gram/ml.

How to measure activated bleaching earth Bulk Density:

1. Weigh the glass measuring laboratory; for example it’s weight = 100 grams

2. Fill the glass measuring laboratory with fullers earth powder until limit of the volume of 10 ml.

3. Weigh once more the glass measuring laboratory that has been filled with fuller's earth; for example it’s weight = 105 grams.

4. So weight of the activated bleaching earth powder with volume of 10 ml is 105 - 100 grams = 5 grams.

5. Bulk Density of fullers earth is = 5 grams / 10 ml = 0.5 grams / ml.
